  a big part of every memorial i ever went to was given to drumming it home that unless you were anoited you couldn't partake.

  and everyone would be watching the "strangers" as their turn came, ripples of horror would go round the congregation if they dared to nibble or sip(!).

  yes, it would be logical to wonder whether a messiah would have any real effect on you.. .

  some whose opinion you may respect would assure you that the answer is clear and unequivocal: you definitely do need a messiah, just as much as everyone else does.. .

  Startingover; as far as how much we will suffer before politicians start doing anything effective about it, the answer is that they never will.

  I don't see anything on that list other than economic situations. There is no mention of Peak Oil, ecological problems or even political trends. These poblems I've mentioned will be the ruin of us all even if the issues covered in that article were to have no effect on us.

  Today will seem luxurious in the future. The US is not going to last too long as a meaningful nation but then don't think that China and the rest of the world are not going to go downhill along with the US.

  reading the posts about the 2011-7-15 watchtower about mentally retarded apostates i foresee the following scenario:.

  1. congregational elders trying to get grip on non regular publishers and inactive witnesses.. 2. the good ones read in the watchtower that apostates are to find in the local congregation.

  3. inactives like me (i hate this name, but i use their language), and liberal witness like me, will be hunted, .

  they've put it on this van that "the bible guarantees it", so it must be true!.

  of course, he was better equipped for it than i am.

  but, dash it all, i do anyway.. i imagine two men sitting side by side in a train station waiting on a train.. they more are less look like fairly "normal" people.

  In a 'thought experiment', it is assumed that the situation is transparent and beyond doubt. So there is no mistrust of the person who's setting up the test, irrespective of his morality or amorality. In fact, these thought experiments often times represent an equivalent dilemma without an intermediary involved; just a set of circumstances where the situation is obvious beyond a shadow of a doubt.

  Yes; I would press that button. As for the innocent man you may possibly kill, that is the doctor who obviously wants to cure cancer, look at it from his perspective. If he were in that position, of having to make a decision to either kill himself or the serial murderer at the flip of a coin, what do you think he would decide? Remember, if his motives for the cancer cure are altruistic he will see it not as a 50/50 chance of his dying but of millions dying. Go ahead and assume he is religious or not religious (religious people do not have a monopoly on morality).

  It could be argued that God did not intend that Abraham actually kill his son. However, other obvious examples, from the Biblical Old Testament, can be given; although the counterargument is that God's idea of murder versus killing was different than ours.

  It is in the New Testament that a concept of absolute non-killing may be attributed to. Yet, in spite of that, the issue of "Christian" policemen and soldiers still remains.
